The highest town in Rajasthan offers breathtaking views of the surrounding city and the night sky and is only a 4-hour walk from the closest road.

Shergaon is a sizable agricultural area with about 300 registered homes and a few hundred cattle. Shergaon is unique in that it offers tranquilly and a peaceful neighbourhood within four hours after a captivating hike. The Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the greatest in the state and known for its birds, sloth bears, and leopards, is located there and is renowned for being an oasis in the middle of the desert.

Itinerary & Details

At the Abu Road Railway Station, arrive. Meet a member of the Pahadi Bakra crew and be transferred to Achalgarh, a small community 15 kilometres from Mount Abu. Arrive at the campground and spend some time taking in the scenery and local cuisine. Sleep in the campground.

Freshen up in the morning before setting out towards Gurushikhar, Rajasthan’s highest point. Right next to the parking space is where our journey to Shergaon Village begins. Up until Utraj Village, it is all downhill; from there, there is just a short climb before you get at Maharana Pratap Cave, where he once spent a short period of time. From there, it takes only 45 minutes to walk to our neighborhood’s mud-built homestay. Welcome to the family of your host, Nathu Singh, and his kind, caring community. Enjoy the locally manufactured ghee and chach used to make the sustainably cultivated meals. Stay the night at a Homestay.

Spend the entire day strolling through and exploring this lovely village. Your lunch will be delivered to you wherever you are. Just find a spot for picknick and spend quality time with your loved ones away from the internet. You can also choose to go bouldering or easy rock climbing with a local expert guide. (You must inform them in advance so he can bring the appropriate footwear and equipment with him.)

Leaving the local hosts early in the morning, begin trekking in the direction of Gurushikhar. While returning, the last patch following Utraj may provide some difficulties because it is all uphill. Once at Guru SHikhar, get in the car and proceed to Achalgarh. After freshening up and enjoying a delicious lunch, go back to Abu Road for your next destination.

Flying to Delhi / Ahmedabad : Delhi / Ahmedabad has a big airport, connected with almost all the major International & Domestic Airports. This trip requires that you arrive in Delhi / Ahmedabad on Day 1 of your tour & Board the train to Abu Road railway station. Early Morning arrival is preferred. The airport in New Delhi is challenging for pickups due to its size and the unpredictable length of time to clear customs. A taxi will take you to Railway Station or you can take Metro to the Station as well. Departure: You may fly out any time after 14:00 Hrs on the last day of your itinerary.

Train to Abu Road : Abu Road railway station is small one but connected to all the major railway station in west & North India such as Ahmedabad & Delhi. Taxi driver will pick you up from the Railway at the time of arrival and transfer you directly to the Mount Abu, which requires 1 Hr of travelling.

Contact us to know more which could be best arrival option for you.

Early Arrival/Late Departure: For those arriving early or departing after the scheduled itinerary, we can make hotel and transport arrangements at an additional cost. Please contact our office in advance if you would like us to make additional reservations.

Missed Flights / Trains: If you miss your flight / Train or if your flight / Train is significantly delayed, please contact Swapnil Rachelwar on +91 94076 89444 and follow the prompt for 24-hour contact. Citizens of SARC nations do not need visas, but they must have a valid form of identification with them at all times (see country-specific rules before travelling). Participants are responsible for determining and meeting entry requirements for their passports or nationalities.

EXPENSES

For purchases and supplemental costs in India, we advise combining cash and credit/debit cards. After Abu Road, there aren’t any shop till shergaon which accept small one in Utraj with very basic things available, therefore we advise you to bring additional cash. Request modest denominations of change when exchanging money because bigger note change is difficult to get outside of major cities. Alcoholic beverages and bottled beverages are not included with your meals, and as we do not promote the use of single-use plastic, it is advised that you bring your own water bottle. If you intend to purchase refreshments (which are not permitted during the excursion), please bring some additional cash. Ahead of Schedule/Evacuation You are in charge of paying any costs incurred (such as extra hotel nights, transportation costs, and evacuation fees) if you have to leave the adventure before it is finished. It is advised to purchase comprehensive travel insurance so that these expenses may be paid for should they arise. Local family also sell some really good organic milk based products such as Ghee & Butter. You can make the purchase directly with them or just let team leader know.

TIPPING

Every effort is made by our staff to make sure your trip or excursion is successful, safe, and as fun as possible. Gratuities are a great way to express your gratitude after a satisfying encounter. If you feel local homestay worth extra tip, don’t hesitate . Since we think gratuities should depend on the quantity and quality of services, as well as an amount that fits your budget, it’s challenging to suggest a precise sum. Your lead guide and coordinator can accept any contributions to the Local Homestay owner’s fund, and the entire team will be grateful.

What to expect from this Expedition

Shergaon is still regarded as a very remote hike that is only undertaken by locals and villages. Even during the busiest winter season, the time for trekking is quite small due to bright sunshine. As a result, this hike gets exceedingly taxing, especially after 1200 hours. Various species of flora and wildlife can be seen while hiking amid the mesmerising beauty of the surrounding vallies and mountains. This hike is rated as Normal. Although it may appear to be an easy trek, the lengthy 14 km approach feels like it would never finish. In light of the difficulty of the walk, endurance is crucial, but mental fitness is more important to consider. Prior to the trip, some preparation would be helpful. No prior trekking knowledge is necessary.

Note on Itinerary: Each day we will try to have some free time so one is not always on guided tour. While we often eat meals together, they will not be pre-arranged which will allow us the flexibility to eat at local establishments or at more preferred hours. Hotels are subject to change. Although we do our very best to follow the schedule listed, this itinerary is subject to change due to inclement weather, unsafe route conditions, or other reasons beyond our control and in the guide’s best judgement.

Private Expedition

We believe any expedition or tour is the ideal setting for making new acquaintances and lasting relationships, but in particular circumstances, a privately led trip is required. Pahadi Bakra has organised private expeditions, trips, and journeys to almost all regions of the nation during the previous ten years. A private tour is a fantastic opportunity to personalise your experience and keep team sizes to a manageable number.

This option is ideal for anybody who has a certain start date, needs a custom itinerary, or unique trip extras, or needs a lengthier itinerary to give themselves more time to acclimatise. It’s also great for filmmakers and non-profit fundraising trips.

If you would like more information on the above please contact Swapnil Rachelwar directly to help you plan your next travel experience.
