Field Work
Work that begins Beyond routes. Beyond itineraries.
Field Work is the part of our work that does not fit into expeditions or tours. It brings together three distinct directions—working with terrain across the country, building climbers from regions where climbing does not exist, and collaborating with institutions to enable scale. Each operates differently, but all of them are built on the same approach: long-term involvement, not one-time activity.
This is where we work without fixed itineraries, build without existing systems, and operate in conditions that are not designed for ease. Some of it happens in regions that are already known, but approached differently. Some of it requires moving away from established routes entirely. In both cases, the focus is not on where we go, but on what can be built there over time. It is slower, less visible, and often more demanding—but it is what shapes everything that follows.
Chhattisgarh Climbing Initiative
CCI started from our own backyard. Chhattisgarh has strong terrain and people, but is defamed and ignored, with no real adventure system around it. The work focuses on developing the region by building a strong local, native community that can guide people on natural rock for climbing, open routes, lead treks, and offer meaningful adventure experiences—while creating something economically sustainable within their own backyard and building usable ground for movement. Alongside this, we work with local youth—introducing adventures like climbing, building basic skills, and creating long-term involvement with the outdoors. The intent is not to turn it into just another destination, but to build a functioning adventure space that can grow from within.
Projects by Pahadi Bakra
Projects are about exploring India’s vast landscape and finding what lies beyond the obvious. Sometimes it’s a place that has been overlooked, sometimes something completely remote. It’s how we keep the exploration alive within the team and continue moving through new terrain.
We go into these regions primarily for their adventure potential, but often what stays with us is more than that—the culture, the people, and the way each place feels. It becomes more than just climbing or movement.
These projects are a way to document and present what we find along the way, and to show a side of India that isn’t usually seen.
Government Collaboration
We also work closely with district and state administrations to develop regions, support ongoing work, and build facilities that can create long-term value for the people there. Over the past few years, we’ve led and executed multiple projects alongside government bodies, working directly on the ground rather than just at a planning level. The focus is always on making things function in real conditions—bringing in our experience, keeping it practical, and ensuring the work moves towards something sustainable rather than short-term development. This has included building small communities into self-sustaining adventure setups, helping shape what is now India’s first government-opened adventure destination, training tribal youth and taking them into technical mountain environments in alpine style, and organizing Central India’s first trail running event. We’re open to working with government bodies and institutions that want to build something meaningful—within tourism and beyond.
